Careers at Two Birds

Join Our Team at Two Birds

We say Two Birds goes beyond education: Two Birds is a community. In early childhood education, first and foremost we want children to learn to absolutely love school, but that’s only possible if our teachers love it too. So we invest in creating a culture that embraces and values our teachers and all the ways they are fundamental to our community and our work. Our teachers are part of our Two Birds family, and we want to support and nurture their growth, passions, and aspirations, just as we do with our students.

What We Look For

We hire across a range of teaching qualifications and experience; we value the expertise more experienced teachers bring to the classroom as well as the openness and innovation newer teachers introduce. When we create teaching teams within a classroom, we pair teachers with complementary skill sets, personalities as well as qualifications and experience. We consider all of our teachers to be part of classroom teams, rather than general support in the center. This means all teachers are an integral part of a child’s day, have close relationships with the families, and are deeply familiar with classroom’s and children’s routines.

We are a Reggio Emilia-inspired school. We welcome teachers familiar with this teaching approach as well as those who are new to the philosophy, so long as they are open minded and willing to learn and incorporate these teaching practices.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Two Birds

Two Birds highly values the unique and diverse backgrounds, experiences, cultures, ethnicities, and beliefs of its staff. We are committed to building a community that embraces the individuality of each member and creates meaningful connections.

Recognition and Celebration of Identity:

Two Birds seeks to create an inclusive environment that incorporates the identities of our families, staff and greater community. Our school hopes to promote opportunities for children and families to acknowledge their backgrounds within the classroom to share with one another.

Fostering Lifelong Learning:

For our students, we hope to provide opportunities to look inward, understand qualities about themselves, and explore who they are at a formative time. These discoveries work hand in hand with the Reggio Emilia curriculum that is centered around the concept of social justice. As children discover who they are and how they interact with the world around them, the Reggio curriculum encourages them to be keen observers and to communicate what they feel and believe.

Promoting the Interests and Backgrounds of Team Members:

Not only does Two Birds strive to maintain a broad representation of backgrounds in its teaching and leadership teams, we want the experiences of those personnel to be reflected in the roles they portray in hopes that it will contribute to a more well-rounded and empathetic culture.

Self-Reflection as a Driver for Relationships:

At Two Birds, we value a sense of curiosity about the world and appreciate the range of skill sets and expertise brought to the community. We also seek to prioritize educational development for our staff members as an opportunity to advance their learning and can benefit both our students and staff.

Professional Development

Two Birds is committed to supporting staff professional development both in and out of the classroom. Development opportunities include dedicated professional development days, in-house coaching, conferences, and educational stipends.

Initial onboarding is facilitated by both our Directing and Curriculum teams. This provides new staff with a strong foundation in policies, procedures, health and safety, curriculum and teaching practices. Similarly, professional development days are also facilitated by these teams as well as by our Studio team to introduce new practices, deepen the teaching teams’ work with children and each other, maintain required certifications, and promote relationship building. Professional Development can take place in school wide sessions, small group work, or through individual one-on-one coaching.

Career Development

Two Birds offers a range of roles within early childhood education that incorporate work in and out of the classroom. As a result, we support a variety of pathways for career growth for individuals who are interested in an administrative focus, a pedagogical focus, or in remaining closely tied to students and classroom work. Two Birds believes in investing in its team and promoting or growing from within when possible, and has seen a number of teachers evolve their work within the classroom as well as to other focus areas. As part of this investment and growth, Two Birds supports teachers’ continuing education and offers an educational stipend.
